1. Use of Definite Articles

In Spanish, we almost always use the definite articles (el, la, los, las) when talking about school subjects in general, especially with verbs like gustar, encantar, or odiar.

• Me gustan las matemáticas. (I like math.)
• Odio la historia. (I hate history.)

2. Lowercase Languages (Idiomas en minúscula)

Unlike in English, language classes and subjects are not capitalized in Spanish unless they start a sentence.

• Correct: Estudio inglés y español.
• Incorrect: Estudio Inglés y Español.

4. Subject vs. Assignment

The word for a school subject is la asignatura or la materia. Do not confuse it with la firma (signature) or la tarea (homework/assignment).
